Step 1

Create a new document 400x400px, fill the background with #848484. Make a new layer named 'brushing', get out the brush tool, soft brush, 5px, 32% opacity, 50% flow, #000000. Brush around randomly a fair amount, leaving some gaps.

Step 2

Get out the smudge tool, soft brush 17px, strength 50%. Smudge around until it all looks blurred, move your mouse in big circles to help try get the effect we want.

Step 3

Make a new layer named 'outlines' and get out your brush tool again, same settings but with #ffffff colour. And go around the outside of the square like below, and maybe in a corner.

Step 4

Now again with the smudge tool, go around smudging the white bits, but keep them on the outter parts of the square this time. Keep switching between the brush and the smudge tool, to keep it pretty white.

Step 5

We will now add some colour to it so apply Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Colour Balance. Adjust the levels to suit, I used these settings

Step 6

Apply Filter > Sketch > Chrome on the 'brushing' layer, detail: 2, smoothness: 10. Apply Filter > Chrome on the 'outines' layer. Now you have your melted copper texture.
